Claude Monet, a legacy of gardens
To mark the centenary of Claude Monet's death, the whole of Normandy is paying tribute to the man who was one of the founders of Impressionism. Les Franciscaines has chosen the double prism of the garden and transmission to approach this anniversary.
This round table brings together Nathalie Bondil, Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Institut du Monde Arabe, Stéphane Guégan, Scientific Advisor to the President of the Musée d'Orsay, Claude Lemand, a specialist in the painter Benanteur, and Annie Madet-Vache, Director of the Musée des Franciscaines, for a discussion dedicated to Claude Monet, the inspirational power of his garden and the contemporary resonance of his work. In particular, she highlighted the way in which artists from diverse visual cultures have appropriated this heritage and renewed their interpretation of it. If Monet profoundly renewed the view of his contemporaries, it is also through the garden of Giverny that his work continues to shine.
