Morny, a life, a work

Yves Aublet

The Duc de Morny (1811-1865) is Deauville's father figure, but also a character in a novel. Born obscure and nameless by the side of a road, without an official father or mother, without money or connections, but with a prestigious natural heritage. At the end of his life, he became vice-emperor, as one of his biographers, Michel Carmona, describes him.

Unlike the latter, Yves Aublet's biography of him is different from all those that have been devoted to him to date, based on his psychology and the resilience he displayed throughout his life, but also on the private man, his wife and children, his hidden motivations, and his passions, horses and an exceptional collection of paintings. Deauville is proud of one of its major inventors.

Yves Aublet, vice-president of the Friends of the Trouville Museum and Regional Past (AMT), has published Auguste de Morny, an illustrated biography of Deauville's most famous creator (2018), and two issues of Athéna sur la Touques, Morny l'Auvergnat (n°183 - March 2010), and La Galerie de tableaux du duc de Morny (n°237 - September 2022).
