The barbarian night
Associated artist with Les Franciscaines in 2025, writer Zadig Hamroune made a name for himself in 2024 with La nuit barbare, winner of the Prix littéraire de la Ville de Caen. This incisive, poetic text is brought to the stage by Claudette Caux and Éric Louviot, to give a new hearing to the essence of a radically singular language.
For Zadig Hamroune, a sensitive child and teenager with immigrant parents and numerous siblings, life at the end of the Trente Glorieuses was not always easy. The author's aim and passion is to appropriate a dominant culture. Parallels serve as a bridge between an ancestral East and a new identity. These include Flaubert and Salammbô, Voltaire and Zadig or Destiny, and Caravaggio as a kindred spirit in the older story of Cain and Abel.
