On the job
Photographer Franck Courtès "changed jobs like changing cars" to become a writer. In order to survive financially, he became one of the precarious workers offered by platforms with no morals or scruples. His story is lucid and edifying.
A photographer in search of meaning and time to write, Franck Courtès left photography to devote himself to his first book, Les liens sacrés du mariage, published in 2022. An acclaimed author, published by Gallimard and winner of the Goncourt short story prize and the Prix Femina des Lycéens, his new passion was a hit with the public, but not with his financial resources.
The considerable drop in his income became a downgrade. After moving to Picardy, Franck Courtès looks for jobs for a few hours on digital platforms: moving house, removing rubble... Selling his arms for a derisory sum, for unscrupulous clients, he rubs shoulders with workers ready to accept anything to survive financially. From this plunge into the world of the precarious, comes an incredible tale, in which the cynicism of some takes advantage of the misery of others. A formidably written account of a man who pays a high price for his freedom!
