Meet the photographers
As part of the exhibition-event Robert Capa, IconsLes Franciscaines is proud to welcome Magnum photographers Raymond Depardon, Cristina de Middel, Olivia Arthur and Emin Ozmen on Saturday, May 25, to discuss their own relationship with press photography and the legacy of Robert Capa. The meeting will be chaired by Florian Ebner, from the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Since its creation in 1947, Magnum Photos has brought together photographers committed to documenting political and social events around the world. The figure of Robert Capa, one of Magnum's founders, perfectly illustrates the agency's ambition: to make the photographer an essential witness to history, the owner and master of his images.
In line with the photojournalism championed by Capa, the press print became a central tool in the photojournalist's vocation. Capa's images travel from hand to hand, from one media outlet to another, but from then on they belong to him. As the years went by and the press market evolved, press prints changed their status, becoming art objects and collectors' items. Today, Capa's press prints are exceptional works of art.
