Stained glass windows: a tribute to Saint Francis of Assisi

Franciscan stained glass windows

Did you know that the stained glass windows of the Franciscan Sisters of Deauville, created around 1890, illustrate episodes from the life of Saint Francis of Assisi? Presented to the congregation by an anonymous benefactor, these works of art are the fruit of the talent of glass painters Duhamel-Marette of Évreux, France.

The monumental stained glass window depicting St. Francis of Assisi marrying Dame Pauvreté, once installed in the chapel's choir, was removed by the Franciscan sisters when they moved, and is now installed in the chapel of their new neighboring establishment.

Thanks to the meticulous restoration work carried out during the renovation, these stained glass windows shine once again, offering powerful light and rich iconography to all who contemplate them. In fact, they have been listed in the general heritage inventory!
