Julie Manet & her cousins
Guided tour of the exhibition Julie Manet & her cousins, the creative freedom of women
Les Franciscaines opens its 2025 season with an original exhibition dedicated to Julie Manet, daughter of Berthe Morisot and niece of Edouard Manet, and her cousins Jeannie and Paule Gobillard. These three freedom-loving young women left their mark on their era through their creativity in a variety of disciplines: painting, watercolor, photography, music and writing.
Cousins andsistersatheart, they traveled, painted and shared the same apartment for several years, embodying a spirit of emancipation unusual for the time. Yet their respective careers remain little-known, no doubt overshadowed by the illustrious artists - blood andheartrelatives - who contributed to their formation: Edouard Manet, Mallarmé, Renoir and Degas.
