Colorful Universes
Each year, the Musée des Franciscaines selects a group ofworks ofart from its 7,000-strong collection, based on a theme. This year, the spaces are decked out in their finest colors. Offered free of charge, this new display takes its place in the four thematic Universes it crosses: Art de vivre, Cheval, Spectacle and Deauville.
Thanks to the City of Deauville's acquisition policy, the Peindre en Normandie fund and the generosity of major donors, the Franciscaines' collections now include worksby major artists such as Boudin, Courbet, Kees Van Dongen, Dufy, Géricault, Monet, Renoir and Signac. A rich photographic collection of 1,700 prints showcases
great names in the history of photography, as well as contemporary works from the Planches Contact Festival.
For this new exhibition, drawn from the permanent collection, a selection of paintings, drawings, prints and photographs are displayed in dialogue with the media library's thematic Universes:
In theDeauville Universe, the color yellow takes center stage, evoking the skirts of Deauville's famous parasols, the sand of the beach and the sun that warms them.
Green, the vibrant hue of bustling racecourses and peaceful meadows where horses graze, is the common thread running through theHorse Universe.
Focus in theEntertainment Universe on the black of darkened rooms, evening tuxedos and the origins of cinema.
Finally, theArt of Living Universe celebrates blue, the color of the ever-changing Normandy sky and the sea water in which it is reflected.
