Raoul Dufy & Paul Poiret
In the hustle and bustle of avant-garde Paris in the early 20th century, painter Raoul Dufy met young fashion designer Paul Poiret. It was a decisive meeting that changed the course of the painter's life.
At a time when Dufy's cubist canvases were plunging him into doubt, the painter took up wood engraving for Apollinaire, somewhat by chance. Fallen under the spell of these engraved motifs, Poiret offered the painter the chance to work for him. The boundaries between major and decorative art were soon to blur... thanks to the colorful audacity of a young painter turned fashion designer.
A lecturer with a passion for fashion and the decorative arts, Anthony Cardoso shares the story of this encounter, illustrated by works by Dufy, archive images of Poiret's haute couture and recited excerpts from the memoirs of this couture genius.
