The Creûniers semaphore
Let's take a look at this heritage site, which belongs to the State but has remained dear to the hearts of Trouvillais and Villervillais alike for several generations.
The Creûniers semaphore, officially known as the Villerville semaphore, still stands proudly on its promontory overlooking the Bay of Seine. However, even if the voices of the watchmen have fallen silent, the rich testimonies of its glorious past are still very much present and invite us to respect them.
They tell the story of the men and the ups and downs of this construction, redrawing the landscape on the heights of Hennequeville. Finally, they tell another, more intimate story, that of the men who have animated this building in the service of the State, the protection of the territory, but also the rescue and safeguarding of human life at sea.
After the Villerville semaphore, Major Stéphane Faure-Brac, Chevalier de l'Ordre du Mérite Maritime, now heads the Socoa semaphore, located 15 km from the border, the last semaphore in the Atlantic arc before the Spanish kingdom.
