Rendezvous in Venice
André Hambourg discovered Venice in 1957 and literally fell in love. His passion drove him to return again and again the following year, eager to explore the Serenissima in all its nuances and through all the seasons.
During his repeated visits, he wandered the streets and canals, from Chioggia to Murano via Torcello, criss-crossing the islands of the lagoon. From this intimate experience, he brought back an abundance of drawings, paintings and even plans for lithographs, which he would put into practice on his return to Paris.
Gondolas in the snow, discovering the Doge's Palace, pigeons in St. Mark's Square - let's lose ourselves with the painter in love with Venice along forgotten canals. Scenes from everyday life, landscapes, small sketches or huge canvases, Hambourg takes us on a voyage of discovery into the Venetian soul.
