A moving testimony for an unforgettable vernissage

There are moments when art goes beyond the image to touch the soul. Last Saturday, Les Franciscaines experienced one of these rare moments at the opening of the exhibition dedicated to Sebastião Salgado, presented in partnership with the Maison Européenne de la Photographie.
Emotions ran high on Saturday, March 1. In the presence of Philippe Augier, mayor of Deauville and president of the Franciscaines, Simon Baker, director of the MEP, Pascal Hoël, head of the MEP collection, and Ricardo Neiva Tavares, Brazilian ambassador to France, the event took on a special intensity when Sebastião Salgado, accompanied by his wife Lélia Wanick-Salgado, shared an intimate and moving testimony.
With deep sincerity, the photographer recounted his extraordinary journey, his view of the world's injustices, but also the hope and beauty he has never ceased to capture through his lens. Each of his images is an imprint of memory, an ode to humanity and nature, a silent cry that resonates far beyond the frame.
This exhibition is more than an exhibition: it is a journey through a life of light and shadowIt's a journey through a life of light and shadow, an immersion in the work of an artist who has made his gaze an essential witness.
The exhibition runs until June 1, 2025.
