A look back at the opening of the "Robert Capa, Icons" exhibition

Sandrine Boyer Engel

On Saturday May 25, Les Franciscaines was the scene of an unforgettable day, with the opening of the exhibition Robert Capa, Icônes. In the run-up to the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, this exhibition, in partnership with the Magnum agency, pays tribute to one of the greatest photojournalists of all time: Robert Capa.

Under the passionate direction of curator Michel Lefebvre, journalist and collector, the exhibition unveils over 150 period documents. Original prints, diaries, books and Capa's personal objects from the Golda Darty collection and the Magnum archives plunge you into the world of this legendary photographer.

Among the evening's highlights: captivating exchanges with Magnum photographers, marvelling at personal objects that once belonged to Robert Capa: his Leica camera, his typewriter and his driver's license. Not to mention his color photographs of portraits, fashion scenes and travel moments, from Deauville to Biarritz.

The atmosphere was both enthusiastic and moving, animated by passionate discussion and unanimous admiration for Capa's work.

This unique exhibition is a must-see for "Capa's studies", Robert Capa enthusiasts from all over the world, as well as for those less familiar with the subject, and will be on display at Les Franciscaines until October 13!
