Julia Lê, winner of the Tremplin Jeunes Talents Jury Prize
After an impassioned deliberation, the Planches Contact jury chaired by Sarah Moon awarded the Tremplin Jeunes Talents prize on Saturday October 28 to Julia Lê for her project Come Rain Come Shine, for which she went out to meet hotel maids on the Côte Fleurie.
At the awards ceremony, the Mayor of Deauville praised the commitment of a new generation of artists who are using photography not just to capture the present, but to question the future of an increasingly complex world.
Julia Lê's work is just one example of this new way of looking at the world, showing the invisible women who work behind the scenes on the Normandy coast. Their names are Antoinette, Claire, Geneviève, Hortense, Laëtitia, Hawa, Sophia... and they all agreed to pose for the photographer, who gave them the shutter release and a pen to put their emotions down on paper. With this gesture, Julia Lê gave these shadowy workers back the power over their image and their story.
The jury was unanimously impressed by this approach, which combines the artist's eye with the sensitivity of the people photographed.
