Deep Blue, the ocean revealed: a dive into the heart of ocean mysteries

At Les Franciscaines, the ocean is finally revealed, with its buried secrets, legends and unsuspected wonders. From June 28 to September 21, 2025, the exhibition Deep Blue, the Ocean Revealed invites visitors on a unique journey, from the luminous surface to the unfathomable abyss.
As soon as you take your first steps, a bloom of vibrant red coral evokes the mythical blood of Medusa, opening the door to a world both real and fantastic. Then the vision unfolds as the works move from the mysterious canvases ofOdilon Redon to the bewitching aquatic landscapes ofHicham Berrada, capturing the very essence of the sea.Time stands still as we embark alongside the pioneers: the primitive diving suits and submersibles dreamt up by Jules Verne and presented at the 1867 World's Fair bear witness to a never-ending human quest. That of knowledge wrested from darkness, extreme pressure, storms and imaginary monsters.
The exhibition ends in the realm of the imaginary, where mythical creatures and marine legends populate a fascinating and mysterious universe, symbolizing the fears and dreams that have long surrounded the ocean depths. In less than two hundred years, man has pierced the veils of this deep blue. He has inventoried, drawn, explored and classified what seemed forever inaccessible. This scientific and artistic odyssey, guided by Jean de Loisy, art historian and curator of the exhibition, reveals how the sea is a land of inspiration, knowledge and wonder.
