A little primer on Eugène Boudin's artist friends

by Anne-Marie Bergeret & Dominique Lobstein

The information provided by contemporary newspapers, the memoirs of some of the artists who passed through Normandy from the 1850s to the 1890s, and the analysis of Eugène Boudin's correspondence have made it possible, for the first time, to list the painters who knew the artist.

The lecture will focus on the painters who lived in the region at the time (Adolphe-Félix Cals, Alexandre Dubourg, Gustave Hamelin...), those who came to see him (Johan Barthold Jongkind, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, Théodule Ribot...) and, finally, those who met and worked with him for a time (Gustave Courbet, Claude Monet, Constant Troyon...).

On the occasion of the bicentenary of Eugène Boudin's birth, this primer will shed light on the circumstances and chronology of their encounters and the content of their artistic exchanges.
