Bathing establishments in Deauville
As soon as Deauville was created by Morny in 1860, the new town was given a seaside vocation, in line with the boom in other resorts at the end of the 19th century. Several facilities were built in succession until 1924.
A bathing establishment was needed to allow bathers to change and facilitate their access to the sea. Initially, caravans brought bathers to the sea. Wooden chalets were used from 1905 to 1923, before the municipality launched a competition to build a permanent building. Architect Charles Adda's project broke away from the Moorish-inspired regionalist style and adopted the codes of Art Deco. Inaugurated on July 5, 1924, "Les Bains Pompéiens", a new bathing establishment, and the Chemin de Planches that runs alongside it, profoundly renewed Deauville beach.
