Christelle Palant
To mark the sixtieth anniversary of Roger Taillibert's Piscine de Deauville, this talk looks back at the architectural prowess of this remarkable facility.
Inaugurated on July 10, 1966, four years after Michel d'Ornano was elected mayor of Deauville, the pool was one of the first large-scale projects by Roger Taillibert (1926-2019). Probably the subject of the architect's diploma - obtained eleven years earlier at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris - it was an important milestone in his career. A specialist in sports architecture, the architect also designed the Parc des Princes (1972) and the Olympic Stadium in Montreal (1976). How does this bold, singular work fit into the architect's career, and how does it reflect his times?
