Belinda Cannone
Invited by the Ma nuit au musée collection, Belinda Cannone, whose family origins span Sicily, Corsica, Tunisia and Marseille, chose to spend a night at Marseille's Mucem. A place and works that echo her origins, identity and memories.
During this immersion in a place that, for one night, is shared only with herself, Belinda Cannone composes a narrative that begins by examining and commenting on the remarkable building, "with its concrete skin", that revealed architect Rudy Ricciotti. Then, as night falls, she lets the ghosts of her past rise to the surface. Facing the Mediterranean, Belinda Cannone, who has long evaded her origins by declaring: "I come from a sea", rediscovers, through the figures of her mother and grandmother, who died in Tunisia, another part of her origins. In the solitude and darkness of the exhibition rooms, the intimate is exposed between what her mother has kept silent and, above all, what her grandmother and father have passed on to her. So many truths and snippets of life are revealed, in a sensitive and moving story, full of surprises and confidences.
