Yoyo Maeght Marie-Armelle Deguy

Editions Maeght, close to the painters' poets

A visionary of genius, Aimé Maeght (1906-1981) was an art dealer, publisher, film producer and daring collector. The story of this friend of the greatest painters and poets of his time is told by his granddaughter, Yoyo Maeght, supported by readings by actress Marie-Armelle Deguy and exceptional archive images.

Aimé Maeght had a dazzling destiny. The orphan became a friend of Bonnard, Matisse, Braque, Miró, Giacometti, Léger, Chagall and many others. It was from this friendship that their foundation was born, inaugurated in 1964 by André Malraux, and now boasts one of the most important international collections, with over 13,000 works by the great artists of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Aimé Maeght was also passionate about publishing, his first profession. In 1964, he founded the Arte printing works in Paris, where artists, poets and craftsmen have since come together around the same passion: printing in all its forms. This lecture looks back at the exceptional destiny of this major figure in twentieth-century art through his friendships with artists and poets, including Prévert, Aragon, Char and Eluard, whose texts on art and painting read by actress Marie-Armelle Deguy offer a vibrant portrait of Aimé Maeght. A life and work that continue through the commitment of his granddaughter, Yoyo, to today's artists.
