160 years of the Deauville racecourse

with France Galop

160 years ago, the town of Deauville was practically built around the racecourse, and it's often said that the racecourse was built before the church! Located in the very heartœheart of the seaside resort, the site, which includes a racecourse and training center, illustrates Deauville's historic passion for the equestrian world.

If the horse is man's greatest conquest, Deauville is surely the horse's greatest conquest! The Deauville La Touques racecourse was inaugurated before the church on August 14, 1864, and the Clairefontaine racecourse on August 9, 1928. Racing, which arrived in France from England in the mid-19th century, became very popular in the new seaside resorts. For the new vacationers, it was a complementary leisure activity to sea bathing. Since then, Deauville, close to Paris, has established itself with its two racecourses in the three major disciplines: gallop, trot and jumping.

To mark this anniversary, Les Franciscaines brings together Yves Aublet, who tells the story of the racecourse, and the young racing professionals who continue to write its legendary destiny.

In the presence of Philippe Augier, Mayor of Deauville and Guillaume de Saint-Seine, President of France Galop.
