Permanent collections : New hanging in the Universes
The subject of the Body has been chosen to be deployed in 2023 in the spaces dedicated to the collections. Naked or clothed bodies, bodies in motion or at rest, body parts, human, horse, frozen in the moment by the photographer or painter await you in the Universes.
Today, with over 6,800 works of art, the Franciscan collections are presented in the Universes in annual rotations.
In keeping with its presentation mode, which decompartmentalizes culture, paintings, photographs, drawings and prints are displayed alongside books, magazines and DVDs to illustrate the theme of the year 2023, the body.
The choice of this subject was made possible by the conjunction of two major events. First, the exceptional deposit of two works by Kees Van Dongen following the exhibition Deauville me va comme un gant during the summer of 2022, and more recently the donation by the Association des Amis des Franciscaines of a work by Pierre et Gilles entitled Philomène (Mica Arganaraz).
These varied figurations of the body, born from the imagination of talented artists, are to be discovered in the Universes starting January 28!
