Samuel Beckett
In an unlikely place, Winnie, a pretty old lady with a handbag and an umbrella is buried up to her waist. A tragicomic character, she slowly gets stuck in the ground, giving thanks to the sky for the beautiful days she has been given to live. A timeless and terribly topical work.
In what remains one of her most frequently performed plays, Beckett invents a monologue that makes fate joyful and defies death by playing with time and memory. Winnie, motionless and sparkling, keeps chaos and despair at bay. She recounts herself with daily rituals and hums the Exquisite Hour that grips us... Annie Pican, actress and director, takes up and interprets in a setting of projected images, this 20th century classic created in 1963 by Madeleine Renaud, at a time when the fear of nuclear war was rife. An opportunity to discover or revisit one of the major works of Beckett, Nobel Prize winner for literature, and his theatre, both funny and tragic.
