The high island
L'île haute is the initiatory story of an absolute first time, of an unthinkable discovery, a sumptuous landscape novel. The story of the unfolding, from season to season, of a child revealed by the beauty of the mountain that sculpts him, and that he tries to shape in his turn.
"In L'Ile Haute, Xavier Llamas' music is the landscape, Valentine Goby's voice is Vincent/Vadim, and during the concert these two instances will tame each other, be in counterpoint, walk together, just as Vadim sets his pace at the beginning of the novel on that of the man who takes him to Vallorcine. [The literary concert follows the same dramaturgy as the novel: we go through the immersion of white, the discovery of a spring where green hesitates to appear, the appropriation of a saturated yellow world at the paradoxical moment of its disappearance. A luminous and video device marks the stages of this discovery, proposing images of mountains that have become mental, pure color. [The spectator is led to take stock of his own images, complementary to what he is given to see and hear...".
