The Grand Hotels of Trouville & Deauville
The sea bathing craze magically transforms Trouville from a small fishermen's village into a charming town that welcomes more than 5,000 bathers in the 1850s. But how to welcome all these foreigners?
To meet the growing demand for accommodation, inns had to be enlarged, houses, hotels and villas built. But investors quickly came up against the topography of the city and its lack of space for real estate development. Some opted to annex a neighboring village or create a new district; others founded a new town. How the accommodation of the resort comes down to a simple story of speculation.
